In Condom there are a
number of excellent restaurants and a good selection of shops and a
twice weekly market - where local producers sell their cheeses, bread,
cakes and other produce.
The local town is officially called
'Condom en Armagnac'. From Le Lavandou, the centre of Condom can be
reached in around 5 minutes by car.
Condom has a large Cathedral which dominates the town centre. Condom is
one of the largest towns in the Gers Department (32) of France.

Condom
is the centre of the Armagnac trade and many distilleries and 'caves'
are
located in Condom and nearby villages.
Many producers are
small and sell their Armagnac direct from the door.
Pictured left is one of
the larger caves with Armagnac aging in traditional oak barrels. A small
copper still with its characteristic 'beak' can be seen in the middle of
the photograph.
In past
centuries, supplies of Armagnac were shipped in barrels from the small Port down the
Baise River (below right) to the Garonne and then to
Bordeaux.

Auch is the capital
of the Gers Department and is around 30kms (30 mins by car) to the South of Condom.
Agen is in the Garonne valley and a
similar distance to the North of Condom.
Nearby towns of a similar size to Condom
include Nerac and Vic Fezensac. Smaller towns include
Fleurance, Lectoure and Eauze.
